#### 🏆 Top Story: South Downs Astrophotography Triumphs

‘Ancient Light’ Wins South Downs Photography Prize

📍 South Downs, England — Photographer Michael Steven Harris has claimed top honours in the South Downs National Park’s prestigious astrophotography competition with his evocative image “Ancient Light” capturing the Milky Way above an abandoned barn near Brighton.
Judges said the image “beautifully marries local landscape heritage with the cosmic scale of the night sky”, linking human history to the starry backdrop.

“This was a truly exceptional image — technically superb and deeply evocative of the South Downs’ unique atmosphere,” commented Vicki Wells, National Park Authority representative.

This win coincides with the Dark Skies Festival, celebrating a decade of the South Downs as an International Dark Sky Reserve. The winning photographs will be showcased throughout the festival.
